Editor's Note

Matt Waldram

So we're back.

After months of technical problems which have rendered the site null and void, and reduced me to being nothing more than a gibbering wreck - we're actually live again.

And we've decided to change a couple of things.

Firstly, there will be no more set date for the release of future 'new issues'.  Instead, we will be updating as and when the mood takes us.  The upshot of this is that we're slightly more blog-like than we used to be, AND there's the distinct possibility that we will actually be adding MORE content than historically.

So what does this mean for you...well it simply means that instead of having to remember the date of the forthcoming issue and check back on that day, you have the luxury of having to come on and check EVERY SINGLE DAY (sometimes more than just once, depending on how much you want to avoid doing any work) to see if any of us have added new content.

And that's it - we'll still be writing the same drivel that you know and love, we'll still be interviewing Folk Heroes and Cult Icons, but we'll just be doing it all on a more regular (but less formal) basis.

Also, when I used the word "Firstly" above, I implied that there was a "Secondly".

There isn't though.

Sorry.

Shine on you crazy b******s - Part II

Where was I? Oh yes I remember, I was chatting away about rock stars and how weird and sometimes wonderful they are. Last month I laid before you some of the strangest denizens of the music business, but there are much more of them, hundreds. It seems the process of writing, recording and playing music causes you to acquire a host of quirks, habits, addictions, neurosis and phobias.

Mr. Picard's Happy Suit

You may have noticed the results for this year’s GCSEs are in. Sixteen year olds have been flocking to school reception areas to find out whether they’ve got an A* (for those who revised hard) or if they’ve got an A (for those who can’t read). I probably fall into the latter category, because when I did my GCSEs over ten years ago I didn’t get any A*s.

Behind the masquerade

Apparently as a child I was very easily influenced by Television commercials, much more so than my siblings and, indeed, my friends.  If there was a new advert for Arial Washing Powder that I liked, and I discovered that Mum was still buying Bold…oh there’d be a tantrum that day. Likewise if there was a commercial for the new Rap’tou kitchen slicer/dicer (no need for...
